Federal law changed SNAP rules for some New Mexicans. Use these materials to help SNAP customers learn what is changing, find out whether the changes apply to them, and know what steps they may need to take to keep their benefits.
How to use the SNAP Partner toolkit
Use this toolkit to communicate with SNAP customers, advocates, and other stakeholders in your network. Download the complete set of approved outreach materials, or just download individual items in the language of your choice.
What's Changing?
Federal SNAP rules changed January 1, 2026. Some adults ages 18–64 must now complete 80 activity hours per month to keep their SNAP benefits. Activity hours can include work, volunteering, job training, or school. Activities can be combined. Many people are exempt.
Federal law changed SNAP eligibility for some lawfully present immigrants. When customers renew their SNAP benefits, HCA will review their eligibility under the new federal rules. Some customers who were previously eligible may no longer qualify for federal SNAP benefits after their renewal. State-funded assistance may be available to help eligible customers who lose federal SNAP benefits.
